eternal sunshine of the swatch

I am swatching for the Dahlia Shawl in Interweave Crochet Spring 2011, but I am having trouble finding just the right yarn. From top to bottom: Färgkraft 1-ply wool, Drops Alpaca and Lodband Einband. I find they are all too dense, compared to the little photo in the pattern. I want a nice drape, so alpaca would probably be perfect. But it's quite difficult and slippery to work with. The other two wool yarns are just a bit too "stiff", although I assume they will soften with use. 

And why don't I just go and buy the yarn stated in the pattern? Well, I thought I should perhaps use some of the endless amounts of stash I already have. 

block party

I finally took the time to block some of the swatches I've done for my course. Time goes so quickly and it's only 6 weeks left now! I have already jotted down an outline for the weekend, but I need to do some more detailed planning and write down some of the things I want to say. Because...well, not even I can remember everything. Har har.
