yeah, well

I knew it from the start. But still I had to try!

I am not going to finish my Olympic knitting in time.

But that's ok. I learned a new technique for knitting socks and started enjoying, which is good for the future.

I probably should have joined WIPs dancing instead and just made it my goal to finish the Gail shawl for my aunt, the shawl she was supposed to get for Christmas. Ehum...

I've finished the first heel. Just need to graft it together. I must admit that it is an interesting construction, although I am not so happy with all the extra yarn tails it creates.

Well, let's just say that someone in the household thought it was a MARVELLOUS idea to get up at 6am... So I just made the best of it.

I did miss the opening ceremony, but I hope to catch a re-run later today. It seemes quite spectacular with the snowboarder at the very beginning. And I heard KD Lang sang! However, such a sad way to start the games for Georgia with one of their luge competitors dying in an accident while training. 

Still, I hope everyone else is doing fine, in their life and with their Olympic knitting.

It's now almost 11pm here in Sweden and no, I'm not going to stay up until 3am to watch the opening ceremony for the Olympics. I'm not even going to set my alarm and get up at 6-ish to see the torch being lit.

I will just cast on and begin my Ravelympics projects tomorrow.

closer and closer

In preparation for the big event starting Friday, I have practised figure-eight cast-on. Very interesting and unusual. Also quite tricky, but it seems to do the job. I thought the Hat-heel socks would use Emily Ocker's circular cast-on, but this is much better. No hole!

I can't wait.

I'm just wondering when exactly I'm supposed to start my project(s). Whatwith the time difference the Olympics won't start until 3am and I'm not getting up to cast on any stitches at that time on a Saturday morning, believe you me. Maybe I can just start any time on Friday?

I noticed that Knitty is out with a new issue and as usual there are a few sock patterns. This time I looked more closely at them, given that I am participating in Sock Hockey for the Ravelympics.

And wow, the Hat-heel sock just blew me away!

Will there be enough time to make them? Would I take on too much if I add them to my project plan for the competition? Eeep, I want to make them!

Edit: I just noticed this particular pattern is actually from the Fall 2009 issue and well the "new" issue is Winter 2009. I'm always a little late...
In this issue I did however like the following:
Spoke, Quadrant and Bitterroot.

preparing

In preparation for the Ravelympics that will start...um, soon...in two weeks time?...I am trying out some different sock knitting techniques. Because I am participating in Sock Hockey.

 

Here are the very interesting short circular needles. But no, I'm sad to say, they were not for me. The way I hold the needles just doesn't work on these.

So I'm sticking to magic loop, after all.
