grand old lady and a half

Here is a preview of one of the kits that will be available at Syfestivalen this weekend. "Half a granny clutch" and a coin purse.  I will publish these here on the blog next week sometime, I think. Or post a link to Ravelry download.

I'm also putting the finishing touches to a two-sided cushion cover. Photos soon.

old and new

Once again I've had the opportunity to try my hands at teaching crochet. This time the theme was granny squares in different shapes and textures.

I always feel there is something I've forgotten to say or that I'm not making sense, so it's very gratifying to hear students say they found me both patient and fun to listen to. On the other hand, it's good to strive for improvement. Every time teaches me something new about how other people learn.

Hopefully there will be more opportunities in the Spring, both at Litet Nystan like yesterday and at other places. I have a few ideas and suggestions for new and exciting topics!

To me autumn means shawl knitting. The thought of wrapping myself in some cosy laciness is very tempting. I already have a few unfinished shawl projects hanging around and I really should finish them first, shouldn't I?

Or maybe I should just cast on for Nancy & Judy?

knitty fall 2010

Knitty Fall 2010 is live and there are a few interesting patterns in there, although perhaps not something I will be knitting in the near future. Except the hat Minty and maybe the elephant Flo.

What is it about German knitting magazines and their sense of style...or perhaps lack of it? No, let me rephrase, it's eclectic, to say the least. In the latest issue of Strikk Trends, you can find anything from these hideous creations...

I also liked these two sweaters for men, although the left one could perhaps benefit from a raglan shoulder.

Another new discovery - and also a completely new website! It's Twist Collective, a combined knitting magazine and pattern shop. Go have a look! It's a very promising start.

I really like the Sea Tangles sweater, a flimsy thing in Habu Textiles stainless steel wool. And Hey, Teach! is a pretty little short-sleeve cardigan. The tank top didn't do much for me, but it's pretty too.

How did I miss this?

Knit on the net is an online magazine of fun and innovative patterns. Not on the scale of Knitty, but well worth a visit every now and then. Just look at these:
- Dilly, a very purple cardigan
- Miss Scarlet, the biggest puff sleeves you've ever seen! 
- Pretty, Pretty Gloves, or wristarmers
- The Little Black Dress - well, a little black dress

Inverness - simple cardigan with reverse stocking stitch and p/k pattern.
Gigi - short, kimono style top (minus the ruffle shoulders)

Helena - let's hope I'm having a girl, otherwise maybe someone else is?
Ziggy - well, it's socks, but they're fascinating!

Dear Interweave Knits,

Yet again I am disappointed in you. Just the other day I received the Summer 2008 issue and dived right into it. I found one, maybe two projects that appealed to me. The rest were just plain awful or uninspiring. What happened to colour, daring designs and new ideas?

I liked the Drawstring Raglan, Wakame Lace Tunic and Après Surf Hoodie. But that doesn't mean I would consider knitting them.

Please get your act together or I will not renew my subscription. As if you care...
