a little note

I have decided to change the name of my blog from 'knits by toveb' to 'things by t.' as it better suits my theme nowadays. Lately, I have been writing a lot about crochet since my focus has shifted in preparation for different courses I'm holding. But I also do a lot of sewing, especially doll clothes and bags. Recently, I have become interested in Waldorf/Steiner dolls, so expect more about that or other similar toys in the future.

So basically, this blog will be about all sorts of things that I love making by hand. I hope my previous readers will stay on and enjoy this small, but significant change.

Obviously, this is the new must-have book! Browsing Ravelry I found lots of fun afghans/throws. The fact that they're all knit in the same yarn from a certain yarn company doesn't really deter me.

...or instead of the previously mentioned Spede sweater I could just settle for a regular guernsey/gansey! I have two great books on the subject and I have Visjö yarn, which is perfect for this kind of project.

But then again -

- maybe I should start looking for a summer project now? Something crochet?

Lately I've been looking through my library of handicraft literature to find inspiration. This is from a book on Swedish crafts called Den vackra nyttan ("Beautifully useful").

White. Just plain white with knit and purl stitches.

I must make a spede sweater! 

Why have I never made a spede sweater before?

What is it? you may wonder. It's basically a simple knitted sweater with a knit and purl pattern decorated with some fancy fabric around the neck and wrists. It can be made in any colour you like, but I prefer the crisp white ones. Here is an example:  and here is a pair of wrist warmers showing the patterning better.
